Before we begin our journey, I’d like to invite you to listen to a few fascinating stories about this land. Many international visitors may know it better by its former name, Saigon - a name that has been immortalized in poetry, music and art, and one that represents an unforgettable era in history. Although the city was officially renamed Ho Chi Minh City in 1976 to honor the beloved leader of the nation, the name Saigon is still warmly used by locals and travelers alike, as a way of preserving the cultural and historical soul of the city.

Exploring Ho Chi Minh City
Today, Ho Chi Minh City is not only the country’s largest economic and cultural hub, but also a living museum - where the past and present blend seamlessly. From elegant French colonial architecture to soaring modern skyscrapers, every street corner has a story to tell. Saigon today beats with a vibrant, dynamic rhythm, yet still holds on to its nostalgic charm and romance. And above all, it’s the open-hearted, generous spirit of the people here that will make you feel right at home.
A One-Day Journey through Saigon: Where Every Destination is a Chapter in History
Morning: Tracing the footprints of history
- Independence Palace - A symbol of an era
Our first stop is the Independence Palace, one of Saigon’s most iconic landmarks. Built on the site of the former Governor’s Palace of French Indochina, the Independence Palace once served as the office and residence of the President of the Republic of Vietnam. More than just a government building, it stands as a true witness to history. Its design is a fascinating blend of Eastern and Western styles - bold in structure yet refined in detail.
It was right here, on April 30, 1975, that the legendary tank No. 390 of the People’s Army of Vietnam crashed through the palace gates, marking the end of the war and the beginning of a new era of peace and reunification. As you step inside today, everything seems to have been preserved in time - from meeting rooms and banquet halls to underground bunkers - allowing you to vividly picture one of the most turbulent yet significant chapters in Vietnam’s history.

- War Remnants Museum - A Powerful Reminder of Peace
Not far from the Independence Palace lies the War Remnants Museum. This may be an emotional experience, but it is essential for anyone wishing to truly understand Vietnam. The museum exhibits a wide range of artifacts, photographs, and documents that vividly portray the devastating consequences of war. From fighter planes and tanks to heart-wrenching images of everyday life during wartime, the displays are sure to touch your heart. Yet the museum’s core message is not about hatred - it is about the universal desire for peace, the value of life, and the harmony among nations.
- Notre Dame Cathedral & Central Post Office – A Touch of French Romance
To conclude our morning, we will admire two magnificent French architectural gems standing side by side: the Notre Dame Cathedral and the Central Post Office.
The Notre Dame Cathedral, with its striking Romanesque and Gothic design, is famous for its twin bell towers and red bricks imported directly from Marseille. Although the cathedral is currently under renovation, you can still marvel at its majestic beauty from the outside.

Just across the street is the Central Post Office, a masterpiece of Gothic Revival architecture. Step inside, and you’ll find the building still functioning as a post office. Its soaring ceilings, graceful iron arches, and antique wall maps create a nostalgic atmosphere. More than a place to send letters, this landmark is a living piece of history and a timeless treasure for lovers of classic architecture.
Lunchtime: Recharge & Relax
After a morning filled with powerful emotions and cultural wonders, we’ll enjoy a traditional Vietnamese lunch at Đại Việt Restaurant. Following that, you’ll have time to rest and refresh yourself at The Rice Hotel before we set out for the afternoon’s adventures.
